Assignment
Business Plan [10 points]. What business problem are you solving? How does AI fit into your solution? How will you bring this solution to market or deploy it within an organization? 1000 words max.
Feedback on your first draft will be provided as soon as possible, typically within two weeks.
Requirements
For full credit, your business plan must:
- Clearly define a relevant business problem with strong supporting context.
- Demonstrate a clear and logical application of AI in solving the problem.
- Provide a concrete deployment or go-to-market strategy, addressing adoption challenges.
- Address ethical, privacy, and bias considerations relevant to the solution.
Your project will be evaluated for the clarity of your business case, not the perceived business value of the project. The sections below provide additional details on what would make for a strong, clear business plan. You do not need to address every sub-point to get full credit — please stick to the word limit and focus on quality of writing over quantity.
1. Define the Business Problem & Context (~300 words)
If you are improving an internal business process:
- Identify the issue: Clearly state which operational inefficiencies, market challenges, or customer pain points are being addressed.
- Context & data: Provide supporting context — industry trends, competitive analysis, and data points that validate the problem.
- Current impact: Explain how the problem currently affects revenue, customer satisfaction, or operational costs.
- Competitive advantage: Why is your organization uniquely positioned to build this solution? What assets, data, or domain expertise make your approach difficult for others to replicate?
If you are building a new product:
- Opportunity identification: Articulate the market gap or unmet need that existing products fail to address.
